AM ColocationAM Colocation

CoLoPole™ and CoLoCoil™:

LBA Technology colocation systems help resolve the critical requirement for wireless antenna space by making thousands of previously forbidden AM broadcast towers available for antenna mounting. Frequently in highly desirable urban locations, AM towers are often easier to zone for antenna colocation than new tower construction. Before LBA CoLoPole™ and CoLoCoil™ systems, the installation of wireless antennas on AM towers was often prohibited by system designers because AM towers are "hot" with RF energy, leading to a history of unsafe and unreliable co-locations.

However, with a properly designed and installed LBA colocation system, wireless antenna and coaxial cable installations have virtually no effect on host AM towers, and the "hot" AM signal has no effect on the wireless antenna system.

LBA Technology CoLoPole™ and CoLoCoil™ systems are suitable for 3G, PCS, Cellular, ESMR, fixed wireless and all other communications services. Virtually unlimited antennas and lines can be collocated, at any power or frequency, with no added loss or VSWR problems.

LBA Technology can furnish complete hardware solutions for using AM towers as support for a wide variety of wireless antennas. Our proven technology is cost-effective and fully preserves the functions of the AM station while permitting virtually limitless mounting of wireless antennas and coax lines.

Prior FCC approval is not required for CoLoPole™ or CoLoCoil™ installations. The AM station files FCC Form 302 after construction to report the resultant operating parameters.

Antenna Tuning Units Antenna Tuning Units

LBA antenna tuning units are designed to match the transmitter to the impedance of the antenna system. Using Hi-Q components, these networks are designed for high efficiency and bandwidth. Conservative design allows reliable operation under a wide range of environmental conditions, at rated power and 125% modulation.

Standard units are available for both series-fed and Tunipole antenna systems up to 50 kW. Custom units can be supplied for higher powers.

Normally furnished in weatherproof enclosures, LBA antenna tuning units are also available in open panel and kit forms. Walk-in and custom cabinets are available as well.

A variety of accessories and options can be furnished, including vacuum capacitors, RF ammeters, remote ammeters, and lightning chokes.

Detuning SystemsDetuning Systems

The Detunipole series of AM detuning systems, based upon the highly regarded LBA Technology, Inc. Tunipole folded unipole kits, has been designed for installation on towers wherever detuning is required to control reradiation.

These systems are widely used in the detuning of cellular, PCS and two-way towers near AM antenna systems.

Multiple system users include GTE, Ameritech, Sprint, Vanguard, Nynex, Southwestern Bell and others.

Multiplexers, Combiners and FiltersMultiplexers, Combiners, and Filters

LBA Technology custom engineered diplexers and triplexers provide broadcasters the ability to transmit two or three different AM signals for one series-fed antenna.
Diplexers include an antenna tuning unit and rejection filter section for each frequency.

Triplexers include an antenna tuning unit for each frequency and two rejection filter sections for each frequency.

Traditionally, these systems are fabricated in a single, multi-compartment cabinet. Each system is designed for the specific frequencies, transmitter output powers and antenna base impedance.

Transportable Antenna Systems Transportable Antenna Systems

These self-contained, trailer mounted antenna systems are designed to permit fast implementation of AM broadcast facilities, especially in isolated or catastrophe-prone areas. Using LBA Tunipole technology, these systems are completely grounded and provide high efficiency, broadband transmissions. Normally provided with an integral frequency agile tuning unit, LBA can also provide complete transmission equipment in a single functional package.

Tunipole / Combipole Antenna Systems Tunipole / Combipole Antenna Systems

LBA Tunipole Folded Unipole Antenna Systems deliver higher efficiency and bandwidth than series fed towers while providing lightning protection. Tunipoles are ideal for both directional and non-directional antenna systems. It provides extra bandwidth and efficiency; improves impedance match to reduce tuning unit loss and complexity; has identical radiation pattern to series fed; reduces tower height and ground system requirements; and allows mounting of FM, TV or communications antennas without isocouplers or stubs.

No base insulator or lightning transformers are needed because direct tower ground diverts lightning strokes to protect RF equipment. Combipoles permit up to 3 AM frequencies on one tower.
